Jalan Kamunting

In my sketch map of the Doraisamy/Dang Wangi area, I have left out Jalan Kamunting. This road connects Jalan Yap Ah Sak to Jalan Dang Wangi and is parallel to Jalan Doraisamy.

This building is at the junction of Jalan Doraisamy/Jalan Yap Ah Sak.

The unique feature of this building is that it has incorporated the wall of the original building within the building.

This is unlike Bank Pertanian (Agrobank in the Dataran Area) where the walls of the original building now only make up the perimeter wall.

The Kurnia Insurans building acting as the other sentry as you enter Jalan Yap Ah Sak from Jalan Doraisamy.

Some of the old buildings along Jalan Yap Ah Sak have been converted to offices.

This probably serves as the tailor's shop and his residence.

Jalan Kamunting looks set to go the same way as Jalan Doraisamy.

This building has been renovated and renamed the Heritage Mansion.

A row of abounded houses. It'll only be a matter of time before it gets redeveloped.

I believe that the current economic situation may delay things somewhat.

The old houses serve as residences as well as offices.

Another row of tenanted houses.

By the looks of the plants and general upkeep of this house, it is probably owner occupied.

As you get into Jalan Dang Wangi, this building is located just before the river (Klang River).

Singapore Airlines (SIA) used to have it's offices in this building and it used to serve as a sort of landmark when giving directions.

A re-developed building along Jalan Dang Wangi. Notice the facade, which is all that is left of the original buildings.

Jalan Dang Wangi

I want to take you to Jalan Doraisamy. Jalan Doraisamy can be reached from Jalan Sultan Ismail, it's right next to the Imperial Hotel. It can also be reached from Jalan Dang Wangi and this is the road I'm taking.

A sketch map for your information.

After passing the Odeon Cinema and the Odeon Cafe the first tall building you will encounter is the Campbell Complex.

The complex, one of the earliest in KL takes it's name from the road where it is located which was then Campbell Road, now renamed to Jalan Dang Wangi.

The podium shopping block and the office tower in the back.

In the mid 1970's the building caught fire, probably the first high rise fire in the country. Subsequently the building was left abandoned for some years before it was renovated and reopened. It received a face-lift several years ago.

The Dang Wangi Police Station Complex under construction.

In addition to the police station, the complex will also house the police administration building and quarters for police personnel.

The surau (the original Masjid Pakistan before it moved to it's premises in the Chow Kit area) will also be rebuilt as part of the Police Complex.

Complex Wilayah, the other complex along Jalan Dang Wangi.

Prior to the construction of this complex, the area was a food haven with stalls catering to all communities. The once famous Majid Satay had its begining here.
